Glen De Boeck

Having established his reputation at Mechelen after leaving FC Boom, Glen had already made his international debut in 1993 (against Gabon) before moving to Anderlecht in 1995. The supremely confident centre-back took over the captaincy at the Constant Vanden Stock when Belgian stalwart Lorenzo Staelens left for Japan in 2000, and he soon attracted the interest of Charlton Athletic. Glen's hopes of making the trip to the Far East for the World Cup finals seemed doomed earlier in 2002. In February, he helped to organise a vote of no confidence against Anderlecht coach Aime Anthuenis but only five of their 22-man squad followed his lead. He was dropped for the Red Devils game with Greece, only to be recalled for the following game against Slovenia. With Celtic's Joos Valgaeren unavailable due to injury, Glen's experience will prove invaluable. He scored his first international goal in the Belgian's shock 2-1 win in France, in the game prior to their departure to Kyushu Island.
