Jones followed in the footsteps of Wales international Mark Delaney when he joined Cardiff City from League of Wales club Carmarthen Town.
He made an immediate impact at Ninian Park and was called up for his senior debut in the Worthington Cup tie against Crystal Palace soon after signing.
He also made a couple of Third Division appearances from the subs' bench but then had the misfortune to suffer a broken leg in a reserve game against Plymouth Argyle in September.
A promising central defender he was offered a further year's extension to his 12- month contract by owner Sam Hammam.
