Fitz joined Chesham United from Barnet.
He was recommended to Oldham Athletic by the Generals manager Bob Dowie - brother of the Latics' then assistant manager, Iain Dowie.
The former West Ham United trainee joined Southampton in July 2003 for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £250,000.
Fitz joined Wigan Athletic in June 2006 with a four-year contract.
He joined Queens Park Rangers in January 2008 with a contract to June 2012.
Fitz spent the second half of the 2009-10 season on loan at Newcastle as the Geordies closed in on the Championship title.
