Viollet was one of United's greatest goal scorers, forming a lethal partnership with Tommy Taylor prior to Munich. Slim, pale-faced, he possessed lightning pace over a short distance, whilst his cool football brain made sure he was always in the right place at the right time. A cool finisher, he still holds United's League record of 32 goals (36 apps) in 1959-60. A survivor of the Munich crash, it remains a mystery as to why he was allowed to leave in 1962. He won Championship medals in 1956 and 1957.
