Dennis Bergkamp

Having joined Ajax as a 14 year-old, Dennis progressed through their youth set-up to make his senior debut against Roda JC in December 1986. Dennis soon made his mark at De Meer and was part of the European Cup Winners Cup winning team in 1987. More honours followed - the Eredivisie Championship in 1990, Dutch Cup in 1987 and 1993 and the UEFA Cup in 1992. He was named Holland's Player of the Year in 1992 and 1993.

In a £12million deal, he moved to Inter Milan in 1993 where he was seen as a replacement for Marco Van Basten. Although he struggled to recapture his best form at the San Siro, the UEFA Cup was won again in 1994.

In the summer of 1995, Dennis moved to England to begin his remarkable success story with Arsenal. His sublime skills guided the Gunners towards their double double success of Premiership and FA Cup triumphs in 1998 and 2002, plus a further FA Cup winners medal in 2003. Dennis was voted the PFA's and the Football Writers' Player of the Year in 1998.

With his well-known fear of flying ruling out 2002 World Cup participation, Dennis called time on an impressive international career after Euro 2000, finishing with 36 goals in 79 appearances to leave him as Holland's all-time leading scorer.
Dennis signed a new one-year contract at Arsenal in May 2005
