PositionGoalkeeper

Famed for the first penalty save in a FA Cup Final, Dave became Britain's costliest keeper when he joined Newcastle for £850,000.

Had a disappointing time at Chelsea. A veteran goalkeeper who seemed to get better as he got older, Big Dave had another excellent season as Nottingham Forest's first choice 'keeper in 2000-01, missing just one First Division game and saving the day on numerous occasions with some world-class saves.

Confident coming out for corners and a reassuring presence between the sticks, he continued to extend his record as the oldest player to have appeared for Forest in Football League action.

After a brief spell at Wigan Athletic, Dave joined Brighton & Hove Albion on a free transfer in January 2003 with a contract to the end of the season.

At the age of 44, Dave joined Fulham in August 2003 as their goalkeeping coach with his playing registration retained by the Premier League club.

On 11 October 2014, whilst employed as Stevenage's goalkeeping coach, he was named as a substitute for their League Two game at Carlisle United, aged 55.

Had he been called into action, Dave would have become English football's oldest ever player by beating the record of Neil McBain, the manager of New Brighton, who in 1947 played in goal against Hartlepool United at the age of 51 due to a spate of injuries.

He had been brought on to the Boro bench following an injury to his son, Sam, who had been sharing goalkeeping duties with Chris Day.
