Brentford's huge central defender missed the first half of 2000-01 due to hamstring and pelvic problems and it was not until the New Year that he returned to the first-team squad.
Darren soon settled down to become a valuable figure in the Bees' back line, once again proving a difficult player for opposing strikers to beat.
He won a runners-up medal in the LDV Vans Trophy after appearing against Port Vale in the Final in April.
Darren joined London rivals Crystal Palace in August 2002 for an initial £500,000 fee.
A further £250,000 would be paid depending on appearances.
Darren joined Derby County in November 2008 with a two month contract.
He returned to Brentford in March 2009 with a two-month contract.
Darren joined Milton Keynes Dons in August 2009 with a one-year contract.
