Fully fit after his injury problems of the previous season, Craig began 2000-01 behind Kevin Henderson and Anth Lormor in the pecking order of strikers at Hartlepool Unuited.

He continued to work hard and was rewarded with a first team place in November, soon afterwards scoring a hat-trick in the 6-1 victory over Barnet.

He subsequently enjoyed a lengthy run in the side and was a member of the squad for all 46 Third Division games, although he often featured from the subs' bench.

His career tally of 35 substitute appearances was a new record for the club.

Craig was surprisingly released in the summer and joined Halifax Town on a free transfer.
