Liddle once again produced a series of high quality performances in the heart of the Darlington defence in the 2000-01 season. A near ever-present he was an inspiration to those around him with his professional approach and consistency. His reading of the game was of a standard usually only seen at a higher level and he proved effective both in the air and on the ground. If it were not for his presence the Quakers would have suffered many more defeats during the campaign.
As the club's senior pro, Liddle assisted caretaker manager Mick Tait following the dismissal of Tommy Taylor in October 2002.
