Ireland began the 2000-01 campaign on an extended loan at Airdrie and scored on his debut in a 5-1 win at Morton. He moved south of the border in the new year to link up with his old boss Jocky Scott at Notts County in another long-term loan deal and impressed with some assured performances in the back line. He is an accomplished central defender who can also play at left back if required.
Ireland joined Peterborough United in July 2004 with a two-year contract that was cancelled in June 2005.
