This young Australian defender signed a three-year contract for Derby County last August having earlier taken part in the World Club Championships in Brazil for South Melbourne. He played on the right side of defence in the Rams' opening two games of 2000-01 before joining up with the Australian Olympic squad. His first-team opportunities at Pride Park were then restricted by injury and transfers-in, and in January he went on loan to Sheffield Wednesday. He looked solid in the centre of defence in his first few games at Hillsborough but failed to maintain his form and returned to Derby where he featured in the reserves' title winning squad. Con made his full international debut when coming on from the subs' bench for Australia against South Korea last October and then made the starting line-up for the trip to Colombia in February. He failed to break into the Derby first team on his return from loan and new manager John Gregory agreed to cancel the remainder of his contract in February 2002.
