Marcelle was invited for a trial at Boothferry Park after playing for Goole against Hull City in a pre-season friendly, and subsequently stayed with the Tigers on monthly contracts.
He shouldered Hull's attacking burden for much of the first half of the 2000-01 campaign until he suffered a foot injury in December.
The signing of Kevin Francis and Rodney Rowe brought greater competition and during the club's severe financial problems in the New Year, he decided to join the mini-exodus from Boothferry Park to Darlington. He struck up a good understanding with big John Williams in a classic 'little and large' strike force but failed to score for the Quakers in the closing games of the season.
He is a quick and tricky striker who impressed with his darting runs and nimble footwork.
Marcelle went on the transfer list at Darlington in November 2001 before being released at the end of the season.
