Carlisle joined Queens Park Rangers for a substantial fee shortly after the end of the 1999-2000 campaign and quickly became a favourite of the Loftus Road faithful after producing some fine performances.

He was one of the very few players to feature regularly for Rangers in the first half of 2000-01 but then suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the home game with Fulham at the end of January that sidelined him until the summer.

He is a strong central defender with good pace who is able to read the game in front of him.

He was rewarded with a debut for England Under-21s against Georgia at the end of August and he went on to win further caps against Germany and Finland.

Carlisle joined Watford in August 2005 with a three-year contract.

He joined Burnley in August 2007 with a three-year contract that was extended to June 2012 in May 2010.
