It was felt that Chris Barker would not be a regular in the Barnsley team in 2000-01 when boss Dave Bassett brought in left back Matteo Corbo, but he saw off the challenge with ease.
Solid rather than spectacular, he has a good left foot, tackles hard and distributes the ball accurately.
He was an ever-present after Nigel Spackman took over as manager in January and signed a new contract that was due to see him remain at Oakwell until the summer of 2004.
Chris became the first player to win the Barnsley Young Player of the Year award on two occasions.
He was made available for transfer by Cardiff City in May 2007.
Chris joined Queens Park Rangers in June 2007 with a two-year contract.
He joined Plymouth Argyle in August 2008 with a three-year contract.
After a loan spell, Chris joined Southend United in August 2010 with a two-year contract that was extended to June 2013 in June 2012.
