Tiler is a tall, strong and dominant centre half who started 2000-01 as first choice alongside Richard Rufus in the Charlton Athletic defence but lost his place after being sent off at Everton.

He returned for just a single game before being replaced by Steve Brown and, after the arrival of Mark Fish in November 2000, he became surplus to requirements at The Valley.

He spent a brief loan spell at Birmingham City in February 2001 where he made a single appearance in the 3-1 defeat at Sheffield United and was then sold to Portsmouth in March.

Required as a replacement for the injured Darren Moore, he added his considerable physical presence to the back line, but took some time to settle and was unable to plug a leaky defence in the closing weeks of the season.

Tiler is the son of the former Chesterfield and Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ken Tiler.
