Cédric Roussel found it difficult to recreate the excellent form he had displayed in 2000-01 at Coventry City in 2001-02 when he clearly missed playing alongside Robbie Keane.
He headed the winner at Southampton in August, but this was the only goal he scored in the first six matches of the season as he struggled to form a partnership with new signing Craig Bellamy. He injured shoulder ligaments at Arsenal and when fit found he could only make the substitutes' bench.
Although he scored a consolation goal at Chelsea, he was affected by back and then hamstring injuries that further restricted his appearances.
Cédric was eventually sold to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the New Year, but struggled to find full match fitness and although he showed some neat touches he failed to score for the First Division club.
A big solid striker, he joined Racing Genk on a three-year deal in July 2003.
