Brian started his career at Wolsburg in Germany before he returned to the USA when he was selected in the inaugural MLS draft in 1996 by the Columbus Crew.
He hade made his international debut in 1993.
Strong performances saw him become an MLS all star, and he went to Preston North End on a six-month loan deal in September 2000.
A regular member of the USA national team, he continued to represent his country during his stay with North End.
He is an ideal targetman with great presence and good control.
An assured starter in the 2002 World Cup finals, he reasserted his place with the USA's first goal in their shock 3-2 win over Portugal in their opening game win at Suwon.
He also scored the opener in USA's 2-0 defeat of Mexico as they progressed to the quarter finals for the first time since 1930.
Brian joined Fulham in January 2004 with a contract to June 2006 that was extended to June 2007 in March 2006.
