This tall midfielder performed impressively for Macclesfield during the 2000-2001 season and was ever present apart from a brief spell out with an ankle injury in February.
Heeding his manager's advice to push forward, he scored a number of important goals, notably in the Worthington Cup ties against Bolton Wanderers and Middlesbrough.
Although mostly operating in a central role, he occasionally appeared wide on the right and even took over in goal at Southend United after Tony Bullock was sent off.
He made a surprise move to Lincoln City in the spring where he appeared mostly in a right-sided central role but found it difficult to establish himself as anything more than a squad player following a change in management.
He was placed on the open to offers list in May.
Away from football, Ben took a part time degree course in Psychology and Law at Warwick University.
Ben agreed a new one-year deal with Lincoln City in June 2003.
