Thomas cost Newcastle a club record fee of £45,000 when he was signed from Scunthorpe United. An instinctive goalscorer, although often restricted by injury, he transferred his very high goal ratio from the Lincolnshire club and it was a surprise when he was allowed to return to the Old Showground ranks.
