Ashley Cole
| Born: | 20 December 1980 |
| Birthplace: | Stepney |
| Weight: | 67 kg |
| Height: | 1.73 m |
| Position: | Defender/Left back |
Widely regarded as the best left-back of his generation, Ashley combines skill and speed with exemplary defensive qualities.
He had made only a handful of senior appearances prior to the start of the 2000-01 season but, following a truly meteoric rise, he was a certain starter for England in the 2002 World Cup finals.
After only four appearances at Under-21 level, he displayed impressive maturity when making his full England debut in the hostile atmosphere of Tirana in March 2001 as England overcame Albania to record a valuable World Cup qualifying win.
Arguably the first ‘find' of Sven-Goran Eriksson's reign, his attacking ability down the left flank became vital to England's plans in Germany 2006 despite an injury ravaged 2005-06 season.
Ashley's contract at Arsenal was extended to June 2008 in July 2005.
He joined Chelsea in August 2006 with a five-year contract in an exhange deal involving William Gallas.
Ashley's contract at Chelsea was extended to June 2013 in September 2009.
