Numan began his professional career as a left winger with Haarlem before coach Dick Advocaat switched him to left back.
He later played for FC Twente before linking up with Advocaat again at Feyenoord.
He made 179 league appearances over the next six seasons for the Dutch club and was a member of the team that won the league and cup double in 1998-99.
He signed for Rangers in July 1998, joining Advocaat once again, but had the misfortune to miss most of his first season due to injury.
However, he has since become an important member of the side and captained the 'Gers in their victory over Aberdeen in the 2000 Scottish Cup final.
Numan made his debut for the Netherlands in 1992 but it was not until the 1998 World Cup finals that he established himself as a regular and went on to win 45 caps.
