Arnar Gunnlaugsson

Date of birth06 March 1972
Place of birthAkranes
NationalityIcelandic
Weight74 kg
Height1.83 m
PositionForward

Although immensely popular with the fans, Arnie has generally proved more effective for Leicester when appearing from the bench than he has when in the starting line-up. Indeed he netted four valuable goals last term after appearing from the dug out, and most were memorable contributions to the Foxes' campaign - a curled shot from the edge of the box against Derby, a sweetly struck free kick against Newcastle and a controlled volley at Aston Villa to clinch victory in the FA Cup tie. Blessed with good technique, excellent close control and an eye for a strike on goal, it is not hard to see why he is so popular on the terraces, yet he often gives the impression of being slightly too much of an individualist to fit neatly into the team pattern, which perhaps explains his relatively few starting berths. Arnie also suffered his share of injury and illness during the season, including a bout of appendicitis in December. He is the twin brother of Preston's Bjarke Gunnlaugsson.
