Andy made a superb Football League debut for Nottingham Forest against Sheffield United in November 2000 and scored the second goal to clinch a 2-0 victory for his side.
He subsequently enjoyed a brief run in the squad and also netted against Huddersfield Town the following month.
Initially used as a central striker, he was later switched to a wide-left midfield role where he showed vision, pace and the ability to get the ball into the box.
Andy was a member of the Republic of Ireland team that won the UEFA Under-16 title in 1998, when he set up the winning goal in the final, and was a regular with the Under-18s in 2000-01.
Andy signed a new three-year contract with Nottingham Forest in May 2003.
He joined Charlton Athletic in August 2006 with a four-year contract.
Andy joined Sunderland in January 2008 with a contract to June 2011.
He joined Blackpool in January 2011 with a contract to June 2011.
Andy re-joined Nottingham Forest in July 2011 with a two-year contract.
