Alex Russell

Place of birthCrosby
NationalityEnglish
Weight74 kg
Height1.75 m
PositionMidfielder

Having made a full recovery from the injuries that had plagued him in the 1999-2000 season, Alex made a full return to fitness in 2000-01.

He had a somewhat disappointing campaign with Cambridge United though.

He struggled to find his best form, then lost his place following a change in management.

After being put on the transfer list, he was released in the summer, and rejoined his former Us boss Roy McFarland at Torquay United.

He is an influential midfield player and an expert with dead-ball kicks.

Not retained by the club at the end of the season.

He is the son of Alex Russell who played for Southport (amongst others) in the 1960s and early 1970s.

Alex signed a new two-year contract with Torquay United in April 2003 then joined Bristol City in July 2005 with a two-year contract.

He joined Cheltenham Town in July 2008 with a two-year contract but was made available for transfer in November 2008.

After a loan spell, Alex joined Exeter City in June 2009 with a one-year contract.
