The first graduate of the FA's School of Excellence to win England Under-21 honours, Alan Miller tasted his first senior football while with Arsenal.
He joined Bristol City on loan to cover for a goalkeeping crisis at the start of the 2000-01 campaign and performed well in the opening games of the season before returning to Blackburn Rovers.
However, he seemed distinctly out of favour and made just a single appearance in the League Cup game against Portsmouth when Rovers used a number of fringe players.
In October 2000, Alan was loaned to Coventry City where he was needed as back up to young Chris Kirkland, with both Magnus Hedman and Morten Hyldgaard out injured.
In his first appearance on the bench at Chelsea, he was called into action early on when Kirkland was sent off but it was to be a miserable afternoon as he let in six goals against a rampant Blues attack; even so he won the Man of the Match award.
Alan stayed at Coventry for two months, appearing on the bench a number of times without making any further appearances.
On his return to Blackburn he found he had slipped further down the pecking order with the arrival of Brad Friedel, although he still featured with the reserves.
