York's hopes of extending their unbeaten League run to four games suffered a severe blow when they lost Peter Duffield in the opening exchanges. The former Darlington striker had scored three of goal-shy City's four Div Three goals. He was at full stretch in trying to add another but suffered double fracture to his right leg as Russ Wilcox made his legitimate challenge. It was left to David McNiven to take centre stage. The recent signing from Oldham Athletic scored his first goal for the Minstermen when he nipped in front of the Iron defence to collect Graham Potter's ball from the left before stroking a left foot shot past Tommy Evans. The United plight soon worsened with the sending-off of Alex Calvo-Garcia for a near head high challenge on Steve Agnew. The replacement ref - Mark Cooper had to retire in mid-game due to a muscle strain - dismissed the Spaniard's claims of innocence as, in keeping his eyes on the ball, he appeared unaware of the balding midfielder's presence. The former Blackburn man certainly made his presence felt in the act of making the points safe for the home team. Colin Alcide chased a lost cause down the right, but his persistence was rewarded when he robbed defender Wilcox. The big striker then squared for Agnew to send a right foot fizzer in to the far corner.
