League position: 17th West Ham United had now lost two consecutive home games in the Premier League against newly promoted teams for the first time since 2006-07. With André Ayew's 56th minute spot-kick being saved, the Hammers had now failed to score three of their last five penalties in the Premier League. They failed in their attempt to win consecutive games in the Premier League for the first time since January 2017.

The Magpies avoided spending Christmas Day in the Premier League's relegation zone for the first time.
