Comments:

League position: 12th This was West Bromwich Albion's second win in their last nine Premier League home games. In their last 16 home Premier League games, the Baggies had now kept nine clean sheets but conceded three or more goals in the other seven. Albion remained as the only side yet to score in the first half hour of a Premier League game in this season, and also the only side yet to net in the final 30 minutes.

Comments:

League position: 19th This was Sam Allardyce's first game in charge of Sunderland. He became the third boss to be the permanent manager of five different clubs in the Premier League after Harry Redknapp and Mark Hughes. Big Sam also became the fourth consecutive permanent Black Cats manager to have started their reign with an away defeat. For only the third time in the top division, they had now gone nine games from the start of a season without recording a win (ten in 1969-70 and 1976-77 which both ended in relegation). Sunderland fell to the bottom of the Premier League the following day due to Newcastle United's 6-2 win against Norwich City. The Black Cats had now failed to score in five of their last seven visits to The Hawthorns.
