West Bromwich Albion designated this match as ‘Jeff Astle Day’ where the family of the late club hero launched a foundation to help sufferers and research of the brain condition, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which caused the death of Jeff Astle in 2002. The club paid tribute by wearing a replica kit of the 1968 FA Cup final. Jeff Astle scored the winning goal for the club against Everton in that final. The outfield shirts were numbered 2-11 with a goalkeeping shirt left blank to mirror the one worn by John Osborne in the Wembley final. This was only the second time the Premier League had granted permission for a kit change following Manchester United's switch to a retro design for the 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster in 2008. The player’s shirts were numbered: (blank) Myhill, 2 Dawson, 3 Brunt, 4 Yacob, 5 McAuley, 6 Lescott, 7 Morrison, 8 Gardner, 9 Berahino, 10 Ideye, 11 Fletcher, 12 Wisdom, 13 Rose, 14 Olsson, 15 Baird, 16 McManaman, 17 Anichebe, 18 Sessegnon.
