League position: 9th On his 200th appearance for the club, Jon Walters become the first Stoke City player to score a Premier League hat-trick. It was his first in a top flight match and the second of his career. His other threesome was scored for Ipswich Town in the Championship against Bristol City on 10 November 2007. According to Opta, he is also the first Premier League player to score what is termed the ‘perfect’ hat-trick (left foot, right foot and head) since Kevin Nolan and Romelu Lukaku on 19 May 2013. He completed his hat-trick in the second minute of added time in the second half. It was the first hat-trick by a City player since Kenwyne Jones in a Capital One Cup tie against Walsall on 28 August 2013. Their last hat-trick in a league game was by Liam Lawrence against Barnsley in the League Championship on Boxing Day in 2007. City celebrated the life of club legend Sir Stanley Matthews, who would have been 100 years old on the following day.
