Comments:

This was new manager Claude Puel's first game in charge in the Premier League. Southampton had now conceded in 13 consecutive Premier League games; their longest run without a clean sheet since November 2012. Having won their last four games in 2015-16, the Saints failed in their attempt to win five Premier League games for the first time in 15 years. Virgil van Dijk was booked in the fourth minute of added time in the second half.

Comments:

This was new manager Walter Mazzarri's first game in charge in the Premier League. Watford had now still to win their opening game of a Premier League season (drawn two and lost two). However, including the League Championship, the Hornets were now unbeaten in their last ten season-opening games.
