Preston North End had lost all nine of their previous Play-Off campaigns. Their success left Brentford and Sheffield United as the clubs who have competed in the most Play-Offs but have yet to be promoted (eight). Jermaine Beckford became the third player to score a hat-trick in a Play-Off Final at Wembley after Scott Sinclair for Swansea City in 2011 and Clive Mendonca for Charlton Athletic in 1998.
