Comments:

League position: 11th This was the third consecutive game in the Premier League that a Newcastle United game had ended 1-0 with the winning goal being scored in the final 16 minutes. The Toon had now won one of their last six games in the Premier League (lost three). This was only the second time in the last 59 games that a team managed by Rafa Benitez had lost a home top division game that was played on a Saturday. Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez said: "We were making mistakes in possession, easy mistakes, not because it was amazing pressing. They went direct late on, and they knew what they had to do. We gave them the chance to believe they could score. It was a self-inflicted defeat."

League position: 16th AFC Bournemouth had now won the last six Premier League games when Steve Cook had scored. They had now won consecutive away games in the Premier League for the first time since December 2015. This was the third time that the Cherries had won a Premier League game with a 90th minute goal (also against West Ham United in March 2017 and Liverpool in December 2016). AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said: "It's [moving out of the bottom three] big psychologically for everybody connected with the club. I don't think it matters at what stage of the season you're at, whether it's the first game or the last game. It's obviously worse in the last game, but being in the bottom three is psychologically difficult. These days in the media, it's rammed down your throat, to a degree, so to lift ourselves out of this position temporarily is a good thing, but now we have got to try to build on it."
