Comments:

Newly-promoted Middlesbrough had now won only two of their opening Premier League games in 15 seasons. Including the previous season's promotion campaign, Boro were now unbeaten in their last 11 league games. Alvaro Negredo had now scored with his first shot on target in the Premier League for both Manchester City and Middlesbrough. Adam Forshaw was booked in the first minute of added time in the second half.

Comments:

Stoke City were now without a win in their last seven Premier League season opening games (lost four). The Potters had now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 11 Premier League games. At 40 years and 115 days, City keeper Shay Given became the third oldest player to appear in the opening game of a Premier League season after Brad Friedel (41 years and 92 days) and Teddy Sheringham (40 years and 139 days). Marko Arnautovic was booked in the fourth minute of added time in the second half.
