Comments:

League position: 19th Middlesbrough scored two goals in a game for the second time in their last nine home games in the Premier League. Boro failed in their attempt to win consecutive games in the same Premier League season for the first tim since May 2008 when the second victory was an 8-1 thrashing of Manchester City. Álvaro Negredo had now equalled his goal tally from his only previous season in the Premier League (also nine for Manchester City in 2013-14). Middlesbrough caretaker manager Steve Agnew said: "From where I was, I didn't think that it was a penalty and I thought Sané went down very very easily. I find it strange that the referee can give the penalty from where he is positioned. There are still nine points to play for and with the spirit that the team has shown, there is no reason that we can't win more matches."

Comments:

League position: 4th Manchester City had now set a new club record for the most away points in a Premier League season (35). City had now lost only one of their last 21 games in the Premier League against a team in the relegation zone on the day of the game (won 12). Sergio Agüero had now scored 13 goals in his last 14 appearances for the Citizens in all competitions. He had now scored 167 goals for City so becoming second in the list of the club's all-time record goalscorers behind Eric Brook (177). Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said: "It was tough as Middlesbrough are playing to stay in the league but we dropped another chance to take advantage. It will be tight until the last game because Manchester United and Arsenal will be there. Gabriel Jesus was out for three months and made only four training sessions, but he's 20 so he could stay on the pitch for 90 minutes and he found himself well."
