City had now scored 100 goals in their 38 games in all competitions so far in the 2021-22 season. This was their 500th all-time home league defeat. Manchester City were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute following a VAR review for handball.

Harry Kane scored two or more goals in an away game in the Premier League for the first time since the visit to Everton on 16 April 2021. Hugo Lloris became the third goalkeeper to make 400 appearances for Spurs in all competitions. Harry Kane scored in the 73rd minute but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review due to an offside decision. Following Riyad Mahrez's penalty equaliser, Harry Kane scored the winner in the fifth minute of added time at the end of the game.
