Comments:

This was new manager Pep Guardiola's first game in charge in the Premier League. He had now won each of the opening league games of the season as a manager in his last seven campaigns; three with Barcelona, three at Bayern Munich and now his first at Manchester City. Jesus Navas and Fernandinho both made their 100th Premier League appearance in this game (all for City). Sergio Aguero extended his record as the leading scorer in the Premier League with 18 goals in his 19 games. Aleksandar Kolarov was booked in the first minute of added time in the second half.

Comments:

This was new manager David Moyes' first Premier League game in charge of Sunderland. Jermain Defoe became only the eighth player to score in 16 different Premier League seasons. The Black Cats had not now won a Premier League opening game in the last seven attempts since 2009.
