Comments:

League position: 1st Manchester City became the first team to score 29 goals in their first eight games of a top division season since Everton in 1894-95. This was the second time that City had scored seven goals in a Premier League game (also 7-0 versus Norwich City on 2 November 2013). They had now scored five of more goals in six games in the Premier League in 2017. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said: "After the international break, it is always a little bit complicated, but we did it very well. We played quick because we played simple. I'm very pleased because again we won, and especially with the way we won. Everybody had a good performance. You cannot score seven goals if all the team are not good."

League position: 15th This was the second time that Stoke City had conceded seven goals in a Premier League game (also a 7-0 defeat at Chelsea on 25 April 2010). The Potters had now lost 16 of their last 17 away games against a team who started that day at the top of the Premier League. They had now won only one of their last 12 away games in the Premier League. Stoke City manager Mark Hughes: "I think it's important to understand that this result isn't going to define our season. We have come up against an exceptional City side and been found wanting in terms of physicality and getting close to them. At 3-2, we got into a position where we might have got something out of the game, but if we are being honest it probably flattered us."
