League position: 1st This defeat ended Liverpool's run of nine consecutive wins in the Premier League. It was their first defeat in the Premier League since their loss at Chelsea on 6 May 2018. They became the last team in the top four divisions to lose their unbeaten league record in this season. In their 21st game, this loss ended Liverpool's unbeaten start to the Premier League season. Only Arsenal in 2003-04 (38 games), Manchester United in 2010-11 (24 games) and Manchester City in 2017-18 (22 games) had longer unbeaten starts to a Premier League season. The Reds had now conceded more than one goal in a Premier League game for the first time since their 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion on 21 April 2018. Liverpool had now won one of their last 11 away games in the Premier League against the other top six teams (lost five). At the end of 2018, the Reds held a seven-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table. No team had previously failed to subsequently win the top division title with such a lead coming into a new year.
