Comments:

League position: 5th Having come on as a half-time substitute, Steven Gerrard was sent-off after only 38 seconds at the start of the second-half. It is believed to be the quickest dismissal of a player from a home team after coming on as a substitute in a Premier League game. The competition record belongs to Sheffield United's Keith Gillespie who was shown a red card only ten seconds and before play re-started after coming on as a 53rd minute sub at Reading on 20 January 2007. The Gerrard dismissal was the Reds' 50th in the Premier League, now including seven against Manchester United. Both of Liverpool's two defeats in their last 18 Premier League games since 23 November 2014 have been against Manchester United. They had now lost all five games in the Premier League in this season when they had been behind at half-time. This was Liverpool's first defeat in their last 15 games at Anfield in all competitions. The Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Panel ruled on the following: - Liverpool’s goal against Manchester United on Sunday 22nd March 2015 has been confirmed as a Daniel Sturridge goal. (Circular 24 – 26th March 2015)

Comments:

League position: 4th With eight games left to play, this victory left Manchester United five points clear of Liverpool in fourth position - the final UEFA Champions League place. Manager Louis van Gaal described his side's win as "one of the most important moments" in his career. The Red Devils had now lost just two of their last 20 Premier League games (won 14). This win completed United's second league double over Liverpool in the last seven seasons. In his 400th career appearance in the Premier League, Wayne Rooney's penalty in added time at the end of the game was saved.
