League position: 8th This game marked the 125th anniversary of Liverpool's first-ever game (a 7-1 win in a friendly game against Rotherham Town at Anfield on 1 September 1892, watched by less than 100 people). The Reds failed in their attempt to equal their club record of five consecutive clean sheets at home in the Premier League. With this draw, Liverpool became the fourth team to win 1,000 points in home games in the Premier League. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said: "It feels strange, it feels wrong, but it is a fact we drew. A lot of parts of the game I was really happy with. We created moments but could not create in each one a finishing situation often enough. That is why I am still not in a perfect mood, I would say. Unfortunately I still don't feel any positivity in this moment. I am still in a 1-1 mood."

League position: 7th Burnley were now unbeaten in three consecutive away games in the top division for the first time since 1975. Having taken only seven points from their 19 away games in the previous season, the Clarets had already gained five poits from their three away games so far in 2017-18 (won at Chelsea and drew at Tottenham Hotspur). They had now scored in eight of their last nine games in the Premier League. Burnley manager Sean Dyche said: “I can assure you our game plan wasn't to come here and keep the ball all game, it ain't going to happen here, they're going to have lots of the ball and efforts, but if you keep them as far out as we did, it's much harder to score from 30 yards than six. I felt we did that well, our shape was good, our defensive unit was excellent, other than getting caught very square for their goal from a long ball. The irony of that!"
