Carlisle nearly crossed paths with Conference champions Kidderminster in May but the Cumbrians gave notice of better times ahead as they completed consecutive away wins for the first time since January 1999, and conflicted the first Football League defeat on the Harriers at Aggborough. The goal was certainly the sign of something to come as Ian Steven's strike bore a certain similarity to that scored by Michael Owen in England's 1-1 draw in France later that day. Scott Dobie played the Kieron Dyer role of swinging in a low cross from the right for Stevens - who also scored their late winner at Shrewsbury on Tuesday - to sweep in a right foot volley at the near post. It was also the first time that United had scored outside of the last ten minutes of their 2000/01 games. Carlisle looked a much tougher proposition under Ian Atkins and Kiddy found it difficult to break down their uncompromising defence. They came closest when Paul Webb's late header shaved the outside of a post.
