League position: 18th This was Hull City's first defeat in their last nine home games in the Premier League. City failed to score for only the second time in their last 13 home games in the Premier League. After a run of 41 games, Tigers manager Marco Silva had now lost a home league game for the first time since 30 March 2014 when in charge of Portuguese side Estoril (won 34). Hull City manager Marco Silva said: "We had chances to score in many moments of the game. Ultimately there was big tension in some of the team. We need to be calm in some moments. It's an important moment for us. We didn't achieve what we wanted from the match but we have two more games."

League position: 20th Sunderland completed a league double for the first time in 2016-17 and for only the third time since 2013-14 (both against Newcastle United in 2013-14 and 2014-15). This was their second win in their last 18 games in the Premier League. Billy Jones became the Black Cats' eighth different goalscorer in the Premier League so far in this season; two fewer than any other team. Jermain Defoe scored in the second minute of added time in the second-half. Sunderland manager David Moyes said: "After being relegated, players have to stand up and show some pride for the club, and today they have done that. We had a really good team performance. If we had shown the character and level of performance today throughout the season we'd have many more points."
