Comments:

League position: 15th Prior to this game, Hull City had won only one of 12 league and cup meetings with Everton dating back to December 1952. At their 12th attempt, this was City's first win in the Premier League in the month of January. In scoring against his former club, Nikica Jelavic became the second player to reach double figures in the Premier League for Hull City. Geovanni scored 11 goals during his two seasons with the Tigers.

Comments:

League position: 13th Everton were the only team to lose all three of their Premier League fixtures over this Christmas / New Year period. In the Premier League, this was the first time they had lost four consecutive games since December 2005 and five consecutive away games since May 2005. The Toffees have now gone ten games in the Premier League without keeping a clean sheet. They have now failed to win any of the last 75 games when they have trailed by a 0-2 scoreline at half-time (drawn five and lost 70). The last time they recovered to win was at Derby County on 16 April 1977. This was Everton's 55th game on a New Year's Day - more than any other team in English senior football. Gareth Barry became the first player in Premier League history to play on a New Year's Day for the ninth time.
