Despite losing this match and the tie 3-1 on aggregate, Celtic were subsequently reinstated to the UEFA Europa League Group Stages. They were awarded two 3-0 wins for the play-off games after their protest was upheld by UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body on 2 September 2011. FC Sion were forced to forfeit the tie for fielding ineligible players.
