Comments:

League position: 3rd Everton had now won back-to-back Premier League matches for the first time since February 2016; on both occasions the second game was against Stoke City. With two wins and a draw, the Toffees now had their highest points total after the opening three matches of a season since 2006. The last own goal to be scored in Everton's favour in the Premier League was by Swansea City's Jack Cork in a 2-1 defeat at Goodison Park on 24 January 2016.

Comments:

League position: 20th On dropping to the bottom of the table after three games, Stoke City had now gone 12 Premier League games without keeping a clean sheet. Shay Given tipped Leighton Baines’ 51st minute penalty onto the post but the ball then rebounded off him into the net. The 40 year-old keeper had now 'scored' two own goals in the Premier League, both against Everton. The Potters had now won two of their last 13 Premier League games (ten points from a possible 39).
