Comments:

League position: 5th Steven Naismith became the sixth player to score a hat-trick after coming on as a substitute in a Premier League game. The most recent was his current team-mate Romelu Lukaku for West Bromwich Albion against Manchester United on 19 May 2013. It was their first hat-trick in the Premier League since Louis Saha against Blackpool on 5 February 2011. Everton had failed to score in their two preceding Premier League games. They last failed to score in three in a row in April 2006.

Comments:

League position: 16th With reigning champions Chelsea having posted a win and three defeats from their first five games, only one team has gone on to clinch the English league title after such a poor start (Sunderland in 1912-13). No team with the Blues' current record after five games of a Premier League have finished higher than third. This was their worst start since the 1986-87 season. Steven Naismith's treble was the first hat-trick Chelsea had conceded in the Premier League since Robin Van Persie's in Arsenal's 5-3 win on 30 October 2011. Diego Costa was booked in the third minute of added time in the second half.
