After 3 games, a record of 9 points and 9 goals represented a perfect start for relegated Chesterfield. The Spireites and the Shrews were divided by the length of the division at the close of play, and the visitors task wasn't helped as their defence located the self-destruct button. First, Gareth Hanmer and Wayne Thomas both lost possession allowing ace marksman David Reeves the opportunity to convert a low right foot cross shot into the bottom left hand corner. Young Shrews keeper Ian Dunbavin was then left out of position and hugely embarrased as his tame clearance was lobbed into his empty net from 40 yards by Sean Parrish. In the conventional sense, Town contributed to an entertaining encounter but the rampant home team barely needed the confidence boosters. A magnificent 25 yarder into the top corner sealed Reeves' Man of the Match performance.
