Comments:

Chelsea have now reached their seventh League Cup Final. Only Liverpool (11), Aston Villa (8) and Manchester United (8) have played in more. This was their 30th Semi-final in all competitions over the last 21 years and 20th since season 2003-04. With this win, they completed a run of seven games without defeat against Liverpool for the first time in their history. The previous record of six games had stood since 1938. Chelsea had scored at least twice in each of their last 13 home games in all competitions.

Comments:

This was only the third time in their last 53 League Cup games since 1998 that Liverpool had failed to score. The Reds had scored in each of their last six visits to Stamford Bridge in all competitions. Of their five visits to London at the Semi-final stage of the League Cup, the Reds have won only once - at Crystal Palace in 1995. Before this night's game, the Reds were unbeaten in their last ten games in all competitions and suffered one defeat in their last 16 matches. They had won all of their last five away games in all competitions and kept clean sheets in three of their last four away games.
