Match Report Canada were punished for a poor performance against Martinique, as the former French province sealed a win in the opening match of the tournament. Canada were unable to take advantage of a bright start and allowed Martinique to begin to dominate proceedings. The breakthrough did not come until the 93rd minute. A Martinique corner was eventually cleared by the Canadians, only for Fabrice Olivier Reuperné to smash in from outside the area. Canada suffered from inexperience in this one as well as the athleticism of the Martinicans. Canada now a positive results against Panama or Mexico to progress. Preview In the opener, Canada will take on Martinique who are making their debut appearance in the competition. Frederique Piquionne, formerly of Portsmouth and West Ham, is perhaps the best known player in the Martinique squad. Kévin Parsemain will also provide a threat. The forward has notched 13 goals in 16 Caribbean Cup games. Canadian boss Colin Miller has a largely youthful squad for this tournament.Up to eight players are set to make their debuts. The likes of the more experienced Will Johnson and Julian de Guzman will look to provide guidance for the youngsters. Simeon Jackson, recently released by Premier League Norwich City, will be one of the main goal threats for the Canadians.
